Riverkeeper's 19th Annual Shad Fest and Hudson River Celebration on Sunday, May 18, marks the "lilac" run of the American shad, a fish that spends most of its life in the ocean, then returns to the freshwater to spawn when the lilacs bloom. The Hudson River tradition of shad bakes began in colonial times and continues today.
Riverkeeper's Shad Fest, a day of activities, entertainment, education, and great gourmet food and wine, takes place on the grounds of Boscobel in Garrison, overlooking beautiful Constitution Marsh. This year's main stage lineup is headlined by The Bacon Brothers. Carrie Rodriguez and Cold Spring's own Uncle Wade will also perform. The children's stage will feature Bindlestick Bill, Roger the Jester and storyteller Jonathan Kruk. In addition to children's yoga, a wildlife and falconry show, face painting, harnessed tree climbing, Green Chimney's Farm on the Moove, boat building, environmental arts and crafts, and education, the new Green Market Living and Wellness Tent will feature companies that promote green living, eco-friendly products, arts, and holistic practices.
All-inclusive tickets include gourmet fare, wine and beer from local wineries and breweries, children's arts and crafts, live entertainment and much more! All proceeds support Riverkeeper's programs that protect the Hudson River and the watershed areas.
